NTS Robert Burns guidebook

Graphic Design

The National Trust for Scotland required a guidebook to represent one of their flagship visitor centres at the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum.

Robert Burns, Scotland’s national bard is an international figure, an extremely complex man; a man’s man, a womaniser, a poet, a genius, a socialist, “A Man’s A Man for A’ That”. The new visitor centre that sits beside the original birthplace cottage, is very contemporary and innovative in it’s depiction of Robert Burns. The guidebook to some extent had to tie in with he same theme, which was loosely based on silhouettes.

Working with the silhouette concept we devised a cover that represents Burns most famous poem “Tam O’ Shanter” – yet when you look close, there are depths of historical reference within the silhouettes. We carried this theme throughout the brochure using a rich layered approach.
